Gold Rush

Gold Rush

You would be a bit of a fool not to be snapping up gold at the moment as this lux metallic shade is set to be a hit for spring/summer 2010. Glimmering burnt orange and pale golden hues were seen down the runway at Prada, and the gold rush didn’t stop with the clothing. The models’ skin also had a golden hue, not a fake tanned orange glow, but a pale subtle golden shimmer that glistened as it caught the light.

The brassy golden tones of the 80’s are out and a new crinkled lamé effect is in. Now, we understand this could be quite a scary prospect; you may be a little worried that it might look like you’re wrapped in bacofoil, but there really is no need to fear. If you’re not confident stepping out head to toe in golden hues the key is to accessorise.

There’s more to black and gold than Sam Sparrow. A flash of gold on black is a mesmerising look and is a great way to jazz up a plain outfit for a night out on the town. Equally, for a smart/casual look, dark denim jeans with a simple white fitted top looks hot teamed with a golden glow and a bit of bling.

Be inspired by a cross between Jennifer Lopez in ‘My love don’t cost a thing’ and Sienna Miller’s cute star style. Pile your arms with chunky gold brass bangles at random for a messy, boho look and scour charity shops for mismatched vintage jewellery. This will give you an air of effortless casual cool as does a pair of chunky gold earrings - though not the hooped kind! - think more antique style costume jewellery.

Throw in a few pearls for an elegant lady like air, but try a cool brooch pinned to a blazer or bag to avoid looking too prim, prissy and ‘arranged’. It should look like you threw your outfit together without really trying too hard.

A killer clutch and heels can make or break an outfit and the brighter the bling factor the better. Sparkling antique gold with different coloured stones that shine brightly are definitely the ones to watch; raid your Nan’s cupboard or rummage through flea markets for original designs, and glue them, pin them, or string them to items already in your wardrobe for a truly individual look. It’s a shiny style any magpie will love.
